The people of Pitney Bowes get a double shout out

As we approach our 100th anniversary, our commitment to our people is getting some impressive attention. This week, Pitney Bowes was included on both the Forbes magazine’s Best Employers for Diversity 2020 and–for the second year in a row—the 2020 Bloomberg Gender -Equality Index.

The ranked list of 500 Employers was based on an independent survey from a representative sample of 60,000 employees working for companies employing at least 1,000 people in their U.S. operations.

The 2020 Gender-Equality Index highlights 325 firms recognized as leaders in their commitment to transparency in workplace gender reporting.

Through disclosure of gender-related metrics using the GEI framework, the firms included in the 2020 GEI have provided a comprehensive look at their investment in workplace gender equality and the communities in which they operate. Pitney Bowes was included in this year’s index for scoring at or above a global threshold established by Bloomberg to reflect a high level of disclosure and overall performance across the framework’s five pillars.

“Our dedication to diversity and inclusion has been part of our history and a demonstration of our values for 100 years,” said Johnna Torsone, Chief Human Resources Officer. “We are honored to be recognized in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index for a second year in a row. Women make up 42% of our employee population worldwide, 40% of the Pitney Bowes Board of Directors and 27% of our Leadership Team.”

The value of D&I

While Pitney Bowes has a long history of diverse and inclusive practices, Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) has become somewhat of a cultural phenomenon in today’s workplace and is a critical component of any high-performance culture. “This recent recognition aligns with our internal engagement scores in diversity and inclusion, which consistently exceed global high performing companies, companies in transition, and companies in technology in the Willis Towers Watson database,” said Sheryl Battles, VP, Global Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement. “A variety of factors contribute to what distinguishes us as individuals including geography, culture, generation, religion, ethnicity, disability, and gender identification and orientation. By including the perspectives, experiences and skills born out of these distinctions, we can deliver better solutions, enhance problem solving, and generate greater innovation for our clients.”

Many organizations have begun to embrace diversity and inclusion to help build employee engagement, drive innovation and attract new talent. But despite its value, the emphasis businesses place on diversity and inclusion today has not come quickly or easily. “We are proud to be among the leaders,” said Sheryl. “Our continued commitment to diversity and inclusion is a defining element of our proud legacy and our exciting future.”
